I've just gotten a SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 laptop, after a life of Windows use. It successfully boots up, but the menu configuration does not seem to be the same as it is in all the online SUSE guides. That is, I have no function-oriented K menu--it's just a bunch of "favorite" icons arranged in a grid, rather than a stack. When I go into Control Center, there is no menu that lets me change that.
Any help? That, and can anyone explain how to install mathematica onto SUSE? Thanks. |

I can't say for sure with regards to your menu issue, but it sounds like you might be confusing the traditional KDE menu with the new "kickoff" menu introduced recently. I don't know though, since I have never seen an installation of SLED.
If it is what I mentioned, you can right-click on the KDE menu icon, and get an option to change. For mathematica: I had it installed, I don't remember doing anything special. I think it had an installation script (.bin, perhaps?). If it did, all you need to do is give it permission to be executed, and then execute it. chmod +x file.bin ./file.bin would be the two commands. If you run as root, you can install wherever you like. If not, then only where your user account has permission. Either way will work. |
