Question

Alright. Wanted to give compiz-fusion a go, but when I tried to enable it (following http://en.opensuse.org/Compiz_Fusion), I realized that I do not have the gnome-xgl-switch script...

I've installed and reinstalled all relevant packages and still the script is not here. It really weird. Is is part of any specific package? Search for it in Yast did not return anything...

I am running openSUSE 10.3 on a Dell Latitude D520 laptop with Intel GM graphics chipset. I have 3D acceleration enabled in SaX.

Any help would be appreciated.

Alright. I answered my own question to some extent. It looks like the latest version of the gnome-compiz package doesn't have gnome-xgl-switch in it anymore. If I revert to the original version of that package, it is there.

The question now is, why is the tutorial no updated? And also, going back to the old version brakes dependencies and means I have to downgrade everything else and I am pretty sure that will eventually result in a broken X...

So so have to mess around with the config files manually to have Xgl working now?

I'm not using xgl, I switched to aiglx, but still have the xgl package installed. I noticed a while ago that gnome-xgl-switch had dissapeared. I think it's now part of the compiz-gnome package.

Actually it WAS part of the compiz-gnome package (sorry for switching it around in my previous post). According to the developers however, it is now called xgl-switch and it is part of the xgl package (http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showt...t=1415&page=67).

In any case the tutorial needs to be updated. I am also now using AiGLX btw :-)

The xgl package update of 05-07-08 seems to have fixed this issue, as xgl-switch now exists.

As an alternative you can edit the file /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager change the following line:

DISPLAYMANAGER_XSERVER=Xorg

to the following

DISPLAYMANAGER_XSERVER=Xgl [/b]
Also the command itself has been changed from 'gnome-xgl-switch' to 'xgl-switch'.

Hope it will help.
