I have some annoying problem with Compiz Fusion on openSUSE 10.3 with KDE. Did clean system installation, installed proper video driver for my nVidia 8600 GT from official repository as described in openSUSE WiKi, added
Code:
nvidia-xconfig --composite nvidia-xconfig --render-accel nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals -d 24 After system reboot and logging into my account i got compiz wirking, but while logging in when my desktop appears i get black desktop (NOT black window) for some seconds while starting compiz process. When desktop becomes black for some tome i can see taskbar. Please help me with solution! P.S. As additional info i can add that i do not see "nVidia Screen" while system boots, is it normal for openSUSE (as you can understand I'm new to SUSE). Other distros show it. Oh, forgot to mention: my window manager is set to Compiz and decorator to Emerland. |

I don't think your issue here is the Card, an 8600 is more than enough to run desktop effects. My question is, how much video ram do you have and what resolution are you running at? I have had issues running desktop effects with 128MB of ram when the screen res was 1440x900.
Also the more windows you have on the screen the more Video Ram your going to use up. My wife's dell laptop has a 8400GS and 128MB ram and dektop effects load up fine but when I maximize windows their contents show just a black area cuz the ram ran out! Let me know how it goes. |
