    Hi Everyone,

    I have just started playing with Xfce and it is pretty nice. The one problem I have encountered is that I do not get prompted for the for the root password when loading a yast module.

    I have searched online (this forum and the web) but am not finding an answer.

    I have found the xml file that has the menu structure

    ~/.cache/xfce4/desktop/menu-cache--etc-xdg-xfce4-desktop-menu.xml.xml

    Inside it has entries like this one:

    <app name="/etc/sysconfig Editor" cmd="/sbin/yast2 sysconfig" icon="yast-sysconfig" term="false" snotify="false" />

    I have no clue to on how to tweak things.

    Any help would be most appreciated

    Hi there . Welcome to the forums !!

    You could try a workaround :
    Create a new launcher on the panel , name it as you wish, "Yast" for example , and use the following command for launching : gnomesu /sbin/yast2 .

    This will bring up the prompt for entering root password and run Yast . Then you can acces any module you want from there .

    Cheers .

    Hi Wipeout,

    Thanks for the welcome and the idea! Since the gnomesu worked on the command line, I decided to experiement I did a search and replace on the xml file with all the items that began with

    cmd="/sbin...."

    and replaced with

    cmd="gnomesu /sbin..."

    And now all the menu items that need root now prompt .

    Only hitch I have encountered so far is if I install another piece of software, my modified xml file gets overwritten with the original.

    Easy enough to fix with a script until I can sort out what all is going on when software is installed.

    Thanks again!
    -Eric
