used to run opensuse 10.1, but then switched over to feisty fawn for a long time. now i'm back in the opensuse biz (with version 10.3), and i'm loving it. kde by far is the most notable improvement imho. that "clean, new" kde look is definitely noticeable, especially in comparison with opensuse 10.1. i love the redesigned kde menu, and the integrated search is hands-down the best desktop search tool i've seen on any operating system, period. however, i'm having a problem installing compiz. when i decide to enable it, it seems to work fine at first (after restarting X), but then when i shutdown my pc, and then turn it on later on, i get a blank white screen upon autologging in to a kde session. i can't do anything at all, except Ctrl_Alt_F1, which takes me to a terminal in safe graphics mode. i had to reinstall opensuse 10.3 again since i could do nothing to fix the problem. so right now i am just running slick, new kde 3.5.7, but with no desktop effects. i know that my graphics card (geforce 6200LE) is not the problem because it runs 3D apps just fine in ubuntu.
i was thinking about just going with compiz fusion, but the project seems to be very unstable right now, especially with all the recent updates the compiz fusion team constantly keeps pulling out (i'm running compiz fusion on ubuntu, and the updates just don't stop). if i'm having no luck with compiz, then perhaps i should try my luck w/ beryl...?
btw, i apologize if this was posted in the wrong section, i haven't visited these forums in a while..
