at my first ever attempt to compile source code, i get an error telling me that the gcc compiler is not found and that i should include it in the PATH environment. what do i have to add to PATH ?

What you have to do is install gcc and some other associated stuff. Go to Yast --> Software Management and select 'Patterns' in the Filter box. In the Development section check 'Basis Development' and 'C/C++ Development' and then click 'Accept'.

thanks for the assistance - i did as you suggested and then steamed into some code compiling - worked perfectly - a real achievement - thanks again
