I also experienced this problem at first. This is because I haven't set domain search in my network card configuration (under hostname/DNS tab). After I set it to my domain name, this problem has gone .

Since my computer is behind a proxy, I've got another problem . The problem is I haven't been authenticated yet. But I do have included the authentication (username & password) string in the proxy address.

Any ideas, guys?

Thanks before and sorry for my english

I kinda have my own problem solved <_< after reading this thread

http://www.suseforums.net/index.php?showto...3&hl=zypper

I add following lines in /etc/sysconfig/proxy

Code:
HTTPS_PROXY="http://[user]:[passwd]@[proxyserver]:[port-number]" (for the http proxy)
FTP_PROXY="http://[user]:[passwd]@[proxyserver]:[port-number]" (for the ftp proxy)
Thanks to Shadoon

One more thing, do anyone notice that smart is slow? Mine is

It often stop progressing for a long time. I don't know if it has background work to do.

Any ideas? thanks

How do you get Ksmarttray to start automatically? I did everything in the how-to on Susewiki.com but it won't autostart, I have to start it myself. Note that I am running KDE on openSUSE 10.2 and I have already removed ZMD and co. and was using the openSUSE update applet before that. Also in a previous installation of openSUSE 10.2 I was running GNOME and I did everything in the guide on Susewiki and it autostarted without any problems.

Thanks.

I am having this same problem on 10.3. I installed Gnome and use Ksmarttray as my auto updater, but I can't find out what to do/how to do it in KDE.

The article I followed is here:

Smart Package Manager from susewiki

but it doesn't say how to add the ksmarttray on startup and remove the openSUSE updater.

Any ideas?

I know someone, and he is the only one with this problem, that has periodic failures of name resolution. He is on Comcast. As I said, he is the only one any of us know with the problem but he is certain he tracked down to the isp. They, of course, deny the problem is on their end.

Couple questions to ask here, is he on a network? IE he has 3 computers and one is acting up? Could be that he is using wireless and is in a bad location....Things to look for are bad CAT-5, bad numbers regarding quality of reception as it pertains to wireless from the base to the wireless card. Packet loss maybe suspect. With my DSL and router I run into issues with the wireless letting go and then locking to the signal so it can make for problems in updates...sometimes I will time out, hit ok, hit try again and then it continues on fine.....

Sometimes a refresh may be needed out of the modem. With the DSL modem, I run into issues where it just sits there and stares at me....to which I politely smile and disconnect power and reconnect.

FWIW

I think he has pretty much checked out everything on his end. He is thorough and careful. The clincher is that he will make no changes and the problem appears periodically. Oh, he's not wireless.

question about smart updater (the tray application).

On my GNOME system, I have it set to launch at startup, and I can see it sitting in the tray. However, it never detects if there are any new updates out there. I had it going for a couple of weeks, and nothing, even when I hover over the icon, it would say there are no interesting updates.

I launched the SMART installer, refreshed, and clicked the UP arrow (update) button, and there were a ton of updates available.

Why isn't the smart updater recognizing any updates within openSUSE GNOME, but in openSUSE KDE it works fine?

does anyone have any ideas why smart, and ksmartray when installed in gnome, doesn't notify me of updates on my system? I have to manually load smart, and perform an update to see if there are any updates.

I can't be the only one having this problem.

I have a dual amd64 system (2ghz each) with a 500gb maxtor IDE drive....running smart update results in the entire system hanging while the HD light thrashes like crazy for 2 to 3 minutes..before finally returning control...this is at the loading and updating cache steps in smart...it also does the same thing when saving cache...no other apps seem to cause the same issue...any way to correct it?
