I recently installed opensuse10.3 from downloaded DVD image. It doesnot contain gcc compiler, not even in Yast list. Can someone tell me where can I get it from as rpm or tarball?

That is strange - I have the downloaded DVD image and the gcc compiler is definitely included.

However, you can get a '1-Click Install' or Manual Package Download from Software.openSUSE.org, enter gcc as the search term.

Hello all, new member here.

I'm using the 10.3 cd and need gcc too (why the h*** it's not already installed I can't understand but whatever), and I can get the source code version from http://gcc.gnu.org/ , only thing is, when I tried to install it, of course I need gcc to complie gcc !!!?!

I can install it from yast, or I can get the rpm. But that's not good enough, because I use openSuSE and I'm not always online I need a full binary version I can install offline, I'm just not comfortable having to depend on the internet, I want MY sofware on MY cd.

I've looked all around the net but can't find a binary version that doesn't need dependancies.

I'm half a noob to be honest, but what am I missing, surley there is an offline version?

e2a: Maybe it's on the additional software CD for the CD version of 10.3??

And if there isn't a binary, any way I can copy the files on my harddrive after installing with yast?? (but I wouldn't know how to do that, I don't even know if I'd have to get my system to 'register' it in some way.

(don't know why the word he*l got *d, doesn't offend anyone does it?

Cheers all.

There really is no need to 'bump' on these forums - if members reading your post know the answer they will reply - just give them a bit of time.

Have you tried the rpm download from here > http://software.opensuse.org/search?basepr...t=openSUSE:10.3 ?

This should at least give you a working gcc then you can download the source code and work with it at your leisure. Remember that all the packages on the CD are usually in RPM format and not source code.

It doesn't offend me - but it may offend some members - hence forum filters take over.

Hope this helps.

su - to root and type yast -i kernel-source gcc gcc-c++ and hit Enter.

Once the installation has finished, verify that the proper packages have been installed by typing rpm -qa kernel* gcc* make and pressing Enter. Verify that you have the kernel-source, gcc, gcc-c++, and make packages installed. Make sure that the kernel (kernel-default, kernel-smp, or kernel-bigsmp) and the kernel-source version numbers match.

Cheers all, I can get the rpm from http://software.opensuse.org/search?...=openSUSE:10.3

But the problem is that's a very small download, which installs gcc through yast.

What I'm wanting is a big (rpm?) download which I can install offline.

Dunno if this is possible or if I'm missing something

Get the DVD image, then you have all the RPMs. You can add a DVD image as a repository.
