Most of you have probably experienced problems trying to boot from the openSUSE installation cd or DVD, in that the system just by passes CD\DVD and boots normally into MacOS X. I downloaded 10.2 yesterday and noticed that this dumb 'bug' has been around a while and has not been addressed to any degree, or at least mentioned as a noticed problem so I wouldn't have to waste 2 DVDs thinking it wasn't burnt properly...
Anyway, I will flame later. The following is not a patch, it is a work around that should work for other ppc computers with open firmware 3 (although there is no reason to believe that it won't work for older versions of firmware). 1.Boot into open firmware. How? press: "option+command+o+f " at reboot a succesful boot should give you this prompt: '0>' 2. Punch in the following command 0> boot cd:,\suseboot\yaboot this should throw you into yaboot, and from there proceed with normal installation. If for some reason you get some weird error message check the command you typed. It should be identical. cd:,\suseboot\yaboot is one string without spaces, and the comma is not a typo. I will now go look for a forum where I can vent fumes at the fact that no gnu/c compilers were supplied in my default installation... |
