Hello !

Just finished installing OpenSuse 10.2 on an external usb hd, that's connected to my a revA iMac G5. The thing is, after rebooting i was greeted with the ?folder icon and immediately afterwards macos X started loading. I tried booting with the alt key pressed, but the only boot option is the MacOS X disk ...
The external USB hard disk is 40 Gb and during the installation i selected the "use the entire hd" option, so i believe the whole HD is ext3 formatted now.
Any ideas as to how to boot to OpenSuse ?

Thanks !!!

You can get back into Suse by booting off the install disk and selecting to "other" --> boot installed system. Since O don't know Mac I can't speak to that side of things, but there's Suse back.
Good Luck

Is this an intel mac? if so did you have to use bootcamp?

I'm trying to help this thread (and i don't know anything about macs, intel or otherwise  )-
http://www.suseforums.net/index.php?showtopic=29738

If it is an intel mac and you didn't use bootcamp then I imagine that it wouldnt be able to install grub on to the hard disk drive, and so hopefully swredna's advice will help.

could you post your results?

Hello and thanks for your replies !!
It's not an intel iMac, it's a G5 one so no bootcamp for me . I managed to log to Suse but only through the bootable install dvd. (booted from the dvd and selected "install" . Once the install GUI was up i aborted and magically the linuxrc menu appeared then i selected the 4th option " Start installation or System " and then the 2nd option "Boot installed system".)
There must be an easier way to boot to Opensuse !!!
