hello team,

Totally new to this, so excuse my ignorance.
Managed to install SUSE 10.1 on my ibook. I've read the problem with the cd tray button is a well known issue.
I was wondering if anyone has found a way around it.
I have been searching forums for a while now without much luck.
My appollogies if the solution has already been logged elsewhere, if not, any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Try the eject comand; something like this:

eject /dev/hdc

ok, thanks for that.

Now, I just wonder if there is a way of storing this command into a key or a even a file I can click on the desktop or elsewhere.

I'm working my way through linux basics not really a coding type of guy.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes, it is possible.

In your home directory, you most probably have a folder called bin. In that folder create a small file (with editors xemacs, pico, or some other) called open_tray, the contents of which is the eject command. Then assign executability to the file:

chmod a+x ~/bin/open_tray

Go to home:

cd

Try to see whether the executable file works. Try both:

open_tray

./bin/open_tray

Depending on the configuration of your OS and user settings, one or both shall work.

Then on your desktop, with right button, "Create New" "Link to Application". There, in Application tab, in Command, enter

/home/albesan/bin/open_tray

hey got it done thanks for your help.
I know it must be a really unchallenging and boring issue for experienced users but for me it's really empowering to get something like that working. Thanks a lot.
