Here's the entire story...

After getting ubuntu from ShipIt I quickly popped the mac install disk into my computer and held 'c' while I rebooted

nothing...

So I spent the next hour figuring out OpenFirmware to boot from cd manually, after figuring...
boot cd:,\install\yaboot

I continued with the install... X didn't startup right... it just hangs... so I decided to try OpenSuse...

Downloading the install from network ISO from opensuse.org I continued to burn it to disk and boot up from it. took me forever to get the mirror set... but I finally got it and continued with the install...
Loading System Install 100%

Pops some things up... then
*** Starting YaST2 ***

And it stops...

I waited fifteen minutes but nothing...
I have a 30GB partition already to reformat too!!!

Thanks for your help... I'm stumped

(btw, I worked around three days on ubuntu and couldn't get it working and I had tried opensuse 10.0 a little while before that...)

Hi,
Did you partition the drive as mentioned on
http://en.opensuse.org/PPC_Installation_Is...ve_Partitioning

That worked for me (that is SuSE 10.0)

err, I partitioned it the same way they said to...

Quote:
Creating partitions with MacOS X:
  1. Boot from your MacOS X installation CD (hold down the C key during the startup chime), and open 'Disk Utility' at the first screen (from the top menu)
  2. Partition your disk and set up one or more partitions for MacOS X, and one huge partition for SuSE Linux. This partition will be split in the required pieces in YaST.
  3. After writing the changes to disk, start the MacOS installation.
  4. Once this is done, restart and boot into the SuSE Linux installer to finalize the hard drive partitioning.
[/b]
I then boot'd into the SuSE Linux installer, "to finalize" the hard drive partitioning.

Maybe it's because the other partition is HSF? (it could be HSF+)

Well,
I have 9.2.2, 10.3.9, yaboot and SuSE on 1 disk.
I created partitions for 9 and X with an X cd. I i recall correctly is did create a swap an root partiiton with the X cd also.
I then booted the SuSE rescue system and used pdisk to make teh swap and root partitions the corretc SuSE type.
Rebooted SuSE again to start the installation.

Hope this helps.
