I have a KuroboxHG, which is basically the customisable brother to the Buffalo Linkstation. The box is powered by an MPC8241 PPC processor.
It has a standard IDE hard drive and a realtek 10/100/1000 ethernet card on board. The only way to communicate with the device is via telnet/ftp. It has a flash memory with a minimal built in version of linux with a 2.4 kernel. The box is designed so that if the hard drive has an installed kernel it will boot that off the hard drive. I have got Debian working using a pre-supplied tarball, however: 1) I've been using several versions of SuSE on the x86 platform and I'm happy with it, I'd rather not change unless there is no other alternative, 2) The version of MySQL that debian uses will not configure properly on the KuroBox. There are some useful instructions on the openSuSE website for installing over a network, but they only seem to cover x86 type systems, not PPC. Any pointers on how to install on a PPC machine via network or how to build a tarball that I can copy over and expand would be gratefully recieved. TM |
