I installed suse linux 10 via virtual pc 7 on my powermac g5 system. Installation went fine, but I don't get a Gui login-in window. I only get a command line login.
I need to know how do I start the Gui interface from the command line.
I tried "startx", but get this message back ...

"you did not install any X-server \(e.g. Xorg\)!
Please install at least one server to start X."

Anyone knows what this means.

The PPC install does not provide a bootloader. You need to boot off of the installation CD#1, cancel out of the install and 'boot from the installed system'. Once there you need to install lilo. Instructions are here;

... but if someone is installing under Virtual PC, they are using non-PPC disks.

Also, this is (one of) the X11 issues.

though I doubt that will help.

More likely need to ask in another non-PPC forum.

When I used VPC (5 yrs ago?) I would have a image for OpenBSD, NetBSD, and would just load those into the VPC space.
