hi,
I bought a mac mini and it has only two USB 2.0 slots. It is the simplest one with neither wireless nor bluetooth support onboard. So I want to buy a USB wireless keyboard and mouse so than I can have one USB slot free. I don't want to get a USB hub. I have two questions: 1) When you want to boot from DVD-ROM in the mac mini you have to hold the "C" key during the normal boot. I bought a cheap USB keyboard and with mac mini it does not work but it works with all my other x86 linux boxes. So, the keyboard and mouse that I should buy must be MAC compatible ? Is this a firmware problem since there is no BIOS in PPC ? Up to now the only MAC compatible keyboard that I have found is MS Digital Media Pro but it is not wireless. But almost all MS keyboard and mouse set are listed as MAC compatible. I want my keyboard to work also with OS X. 2)I can find only Microsoft and Logitech wireless sets in my country and I don't want to get a set(keyb+mouse) from apple. Should I buy RF or Bluetooth ? |

First of all, mac key shortcuts and keyboard command sequences do not work on PPC Linux. It is Linux, not OSX. If you want to get a fully compatible Mac keyboard, the logical choice is from Apple but there are other vendors. (see link below). I own a logitech keyboard, and an apple keyboard. When I want to (rarely) issue a boot command key sequence in OSX, I plug in the Mac keyboard. While my Logitech (Elite) does have Apple keys, they do not function for boot commands on OSX.
Take a look here for other keyboard choices...I think Kensington for example makes a fully compatible Mac keyboard. http://www.macmall.com/macmall/search/sear...x=0&submit1.y=0 Bluetooth or rf is your choice, but since your mini doesn't come with bluetooth, you'd also have to purchase a bluetooth dongle. Personally I'd not get bluetooth just for a keyboard/mouse unless I also had other bluetooth devices. |

The link you provide is very good. Unfortunattely I cannot find a MacAlly or Kensington keyboard in my country. I would buy an apple keyboard but in my country apple has only an online shop and I don't have any credit cards etc.. Believe it, it is true !! ![]() So when you use your Logitech keyboard and hold down the "C" key you cannot boot from CD/DVD ?? I am not reffering to giving boot commands from running OSX. I think that holding down the "C" key does not involve in any way OSX, but I am not sure. |

The 'C' key command does not work with any OS on my powermac or ibook with the Logitech keyboard.

You cannot type using "C" or you can type but iBook and PowerBook don't accept the "C" command during boot ? I am kinda confused here ![]() The cheap no-name USB keyboard that I got yesterday has exactly the same problem in OSX. It does not identify the "C" and the "3" (not in the numpad) at all !! |
