Hello,
Just thought someone might be interested on yet another option we had,,,, to recable our firewire Hotec External HDD as USB and try a OS Beta for PPC install on a just months old stock standard Apple iMac G5 with wired mouse, wired keyboard and 1.5 gig of onboard ram. The install went fine finally, we really did have to force an install though it wanted to default to our Apple supplied internal SATA HDD. We had to manually delete all existing partitions on the SATA internal HDD and manually partition the external recabled Firewire / USB Combo Hotec HDD to USB. We finally completed the install but on getting to the final bit that wrote the yaboot installer code to the "INTERNAL" HDD,,,,, it failed. All our best efforts then to get the code to be written to the "internal boot drive" ,,,,, FAILED !!!! Having explored the CD rescue option several times, we now seriously doubt that there is any way to manually write the yaboot code to the internal drive. Any worthwhile suggestions you may care to make will be considered. thanks, regards, tom, anna and family. |

This version uses LILO, you actually have to install it from within the running SUSE, at least init 3. Seems like a catch 22 eh? LOL. There is a way to start SUSE off of the installation CD. You have to create an etc/lilo.conf file, populate it with a meaningful conf per opensuse PPC instructions, then run /sbin/lilo
