Hi everyone,
Just a short one,

Has there been anyone who has actually got the 10.rc1 downloaded iso then burnt onto a cdrom to actually successfully install on a bog stock standard G5 iMac. Then after a successful install had a successful login and boot to the Gnome (or KDE) Desktop.

Please come in and post a thread to this topic if you have succeeded please and share just exactly what "magic" you used. We would deeply appreciate it. My Family Wife and I are beginning to clutch at straws, after just toooooooo many failures. Unfortunately Open Suse has not been the only Linux on Mac Distro failure.

thanks in advance,, regards
tom, anna and family.

I am typing this (while listening to some rather nice streaming audio I might add) on a power mac G4 running 10.0 RC1 PPC. It's not a G5 though . First, YaST partitioner and lilo bootloader are broken at the moment in the 10.0 RC1 PPC installer. If you were not aware of that then you need to read this....

http://www.opensuse.org/PPC_Installation_Issues

and this...

http://www.opensuse.org/PPC_Partitioning

I used an ubuntu hoary ppc installer to set my partitions and apple bootstrap up....and I joined the PPC mailing list. (recommended).

Uh..Ok thanks Tom, but I think they are aware of these issues since the developers most likely wrote the articles listing the issues with PPC.

As of today, I know that SuSE 10.3 works on a G4 Powermac. Let the default YAST install do the heavy lifting and just cruise on.

I would suggest getting a double the old size drive disk and using "Carbon Copy" if you want to keep the Mac OS around.
