This is my partition layout:

--

/dev/sda1: Windows NTFS
/dev/sda2: Extended partition containing /dev/sda5 and /dev/sda6

/dev/sda5: Ubuntu ext3
/dev/sda6: Ubuntu swap

There is no free space of any significant size

--

I wanted to shrink my NTFS partition by about 15GB and let Opensuse only use that space. The built-in partitioner will allow me to do this. However, the summary of what it 'plans' to do includes deleting /dev/sda5. No buttons I can see will allow me to not do this. It seems to want to use the NTFS-freed space AND my former /dev/sda5 and /dev/sda6 for its root and /home partitions.

How can I instruct it to ONLY use the space freed by the shrinking of my NTFS partition?

click change layout, then advanced if my memory serves me correctly. The find that partition and click edit, delete the mount point and make sure DO NOT format is checked.
