Hello,

I have configured an ar5007eg with ndiswrapper and the driver provided from the ndiswrapper sight. After installing the driver and module with ndis and configuring the network manager I was able to connect to my network, this worked for a while.

Then just recently the network manager would refuse to connect to the network so I would have to reinstall the driver to get the NM to connect...

I am using wep on my network could this be causing the inconsistencies?
Is anyone else having these strange problems with wireless networking?
What is your experience?

If you have a fixed network (e.g. a home or office desktop that doesn't need to connecttot many networks at different times) then you can bypass network manager. NM is a dynamic thing and hence can at times be a pain. Do you have a fixed LAN or fixed situation?

Yes, I am usually connected to one network for an extended period of time...I tried using ifup without success but that may have been after NM caused a problem...I will try making ifup my default

thanks,

You can set ifup once and it will auto-activate everything thereafetr each time you boot. That setting up process makes NM inactive. So it won't bother you again. Here's the picture where you switch in Yast from NM control to ifup control: it's Pic#11 here. And here's a link to pics for setting up a network interface in Yast.

But of course, if you want to stay with an NM, deltaflyer's suggestion is the way to go.

I have been having problems with ifup...
My wlan0 interface is present but when I try the iwconfig commands to configure it the settings do not take

for instance I will type
$ iwconfig wlan0 essid "wireless"

but when I check to see if the essid has changed I don't see "wireless"

I also need to fix a driver for the wired ethernet device because when I turn of the NM I can't see eth0...
I don't understand why NM and eth0 would not use the same device loaded in the kernel.

Anymore feed back is appreciated...will check out wifi_radar

thanks,

brahan
