I started with fedora and was able to get it working in there but I can't seem to get it working in opensuse. here is the link to the thread where I recieved the help I needed to get it to work in fedora
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=188960 I like opensuse better than fedora though and would rather use this. here is what happened when I tried to do the same thing in opensuse 10.3 admin@linux-059w:~> su - Password: linux-059w:~ # cd '/media/USB20FD/broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5' linux-059w:/media/USB20FD/broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5 # cd driver linux-059w:/media/USB20FD/broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5/driver # b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware wl_apsta_mimo.o -bash: b43-fwcutter: command not found linux-059w:/media/USB20FD/broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5/driver # any help, as in the fedora link, I really don't know how to use the terminal very well so the easier the instructions the better. |

Fedora 9 is using a much more recent kernel than 10.3, the b43 stuff doesn't exist in 10.3. You'll need to use the bcm43xx-fwcutter package, broadcom is still handled by the older bcm43xx driver in 10.3.
Check out this link on the openSUSE wiki. Note the part about the 4311, if this is the chipset you're using, you won't be able to get it working natively in openSUSE 10.3, you'll need a more recent kernel (at which point you can use the b43 steps from Fedora). I had a laptop in the past with a 4311, and I had native support with bcm43xx as of kernel 2.6.23 (if I recall), but you may find it easier just to try and install the most recent kernel from the build-service, if this is your case. You should be able to search this forum for info on installing updated kernels. Hope this helps give you a starting point...? Cheers, KV |

d*** that was easy, didn't even have to restart my system. I was actually about to put vista back on it out of frustration, I tried to figure it out myself yesterday but made a mess of everything, hard to believe just one command fixed my problem, well thanks for the info, it was driving me nuts.
