I installed Open Suse 10.3 on my laptop, everything works fine, excepts wireless. I can't make it work at all. When i type in the console 'lspci' i can see there the name of the wireless card ( Atheros AR 5006 EG)but i have no ideea where can i get the driver, and how to install it. Do i need madwifi? When i try to configure the wireless card,i receive some like that ' your kernel device is not active' What to i have to do in this case? Compile the kernel? Please help me,i'm new in the world of Linux, and i wanna keep this OS,it works fine, and i don't wanna go back to windows I read here some topics, and tryied to do as they said, but i still can 't fix my wireless. PLEASE,someone help mei would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance, any suggest /ideas are welcome.

It looks like you need to install the Madwifi rpm and configure the card in Yast, the normal way. Check out this how to which addresses bot Madwifi and Ndiswrappper but focus on Madwifi for Atheros chipsets and ignore the Ndiswrapper content in the tutorial: HowTo: Configure your wireless interface for LAN and Internet access

And just to be thorough, please post the make and model of your card and also check Google for any quirks associated with it.

Assuming you have openSUISE 10.3:
First you have to install the Madwifi rpm. GoTo Yast --> Community repositories. Make sure the following are ticked:
Main repo non oss
Main repo oss
Main update repo
Packman repo
Videilan repo
If you have ATI graphics or Nvidia, while you're there tick as appropriate

Then click "Finish"

GoTo Yast --> software management --> search box on LHS. Search on madwifi. On RHS tick just the one madwifi.

Then configure the card in Yast. Here's how to do that in pictures -- ignore the parts about installing madwifi because you've dome that. Start from Configure the Wireless Card Using Yast. That's just a guide, you need to modify to suit your situation.
