Hey all!!

Installed 10.3 on HP zv5000 with Broadcom 4306. Used fwcutter command "install_bcm43xx_firmware" and "DING!" - it worked. 12 hours later, looking in KnetworkManager, I realized I didn't have the firewall active. Set firewall through that (also, some updates seemed to get applied before firewall setup) then had to shutdown - late. Darn thing hung shutting down! Oh well, mess with it in the morning. Pull the plug.

In the morning, wireless no workee! Wireless icon was active in the tray but "no route to hosts" when attempting to ping or surf. Check KnetworkManager and find that Wireless firewall setting is "No Zone - All traffic blocked." No matter how many times I change it, it won't switch to another zone. So, I'll try to set it without firewall. I'm not using the 'Security and Users' app yet - it was all right there in KnetworkManager. Got firewall to deactivate (after a little arm wrestling) but now Wireless is crapped out again! Have switched out of KnetMan and used ifconfig, to no avail. Tried various things, but my tool bag only has a screwdriver and a hammer in it.

Any ideas?

Well, I booted into Windows XP and found that Wireless wasn't working. Then I realized, "Oh no! The 64 bit firmware cr*pped out the adapter in my 32 bit XP! That's why I always avoided this solution."

I updated the driver in XP and it worked fine again, then when I booted back into SUSE it works now, too! However, I don't have a firewall happenin' and I'm afraid to institute it.

Howdy!

Instituted firewall and all seems well. Way to go Mighty Morphin Power Rangers! (AKA Gremlins.)
