This is exactly what is in the wiki.

bcm43xx-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware ~/Desktop/wl_apsta.o

Note the ~ before /Desktop

I get the same error with the ~. "/lib/firmware/bcm43xx_microcode2.fw: No such file or directory"

Also, how do I change the default editor to emacs? I made a bash.bashrc.local file with

export EDITOR=/usr/bin/emacs

but that doesn't seem to be working. Thanks

Use the full path to the file. I just did it and it worked...

linux-blnr:/home/harryc # bcm43xx-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware /home/harryc/Desktop/wl_apsta.o

I still get the same error. Also, suse cannot find the command "modprobe".

Any suggestions?

you have to be root to use modprobe.

make sure you locate the file correctly. when typing the location to the file use the tab key to have it navigate for you (will display the current directory if you hit it twice and will complete a directory if you type the beginning of it and hit it once).

There is nothing wrong with the way I am typing it in. I keep getting the error telling me that there is no file:

/lib/firmware/bcm43xx_microcode2.fw: No such file or directory

Does this mean that I have a faulty wl_apsta.o file or need a newer version of bcm43xx?

Are you running bcm43xx-fwcutter as root? You'll need root privileges to write the extracted files to /lib/firmware, you'll receive an error otherwise and that could be the problem.

Just a thought...

Cheers,
KV
