Thumbs down

Hello all.

I have some problem with OpenSuse 10.3 and windows Internet Gateway.

I have setup my home network, that consist of 1 Windows XP SP2 computer and 1 OpenSuse 10.3 computer.

Both are connected with 1 wire. Nothing is between them.

The Windows computer is connected on the internet and is my Internet Gateway.

Both computers are have the Apache server running.

On windows i have setup Static IP address (192.168.0.1) and for OpenSuse Static IP too (192.168.0.9)

Windows domain name is www2 and OpenSuse is www.datacenterhellas.mn

When i try to enter the url "www.datacenterhellas.mn" on windows I can't see the page from the OpenSuse apache, bat when ientering the IP (192.168.0.9) then i can see it.

Now from OpenSuse computer when i enter www2 I can't see the page that run on Windows Apache installation but when i enter the IP (192.168.0.1) then i see the page on the windows.
Also when i try to access the internet from OpenSuse i can't connect to no one service either is web site or mail or any other service.

What can i do for ? ? ?

Thanks a lot ! ! ! !

Neither of those two names are likely to be known to the nameservers that serve these two machines so it's not surprising that you can't reach them by name. For the OpenSUSE side you need to enter the name www2 in /etc/hosts, providing you are using hosts in addition to DNS for lookup (see /etc/nsswitch.conf). For the Windows side, apparently you can add a name to lmhosts, but I can't be sure of this.

Unless your Windows machine is set up for Internet sharing, and OpenSUSE specifies it as the default gateway in network setup, you will not be able to reach the Internet from OpenSUSE.

on your windows add your linux machine and domain name to the "cwindows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" file

eg
192.168.0.9 www.datacenterhellas.mn

save and close the hosts file then from a command prompt type:-
nbtstat -R
