I'm running 10.2 on an acer aspire 3690.
At home I connect to a fiber-optic line using DHCP and a DSL login. At work I connect via a static IP. Reconfiguring my network card for one or the other isn't difficult, but it is tedious and I sometimes input the various IP, mask, or gate incorrectly, adding an extra few minutes to the process. My question is; can I configure the network card for both under the same user, or do I need two different users ie: Homeuser and Workuser? |

Maybe try profiles (see YaST). I've never used them, but it appears to be designed for this sort of "personality" switching.
Pity your work doesn't use DHCP, then you could just leave it at that setting and wander anywhere with that setting. From the posts I've seen so far, DHCP seems to be not used at work sites in Japan. This I don't understand, since DHCP is not incompatible with static IPs, you can configure a DHCP server to give a specific IP address to a client. There may be a socio-technical thesis possible on this topic.

I'll look into that. Thanks
I don't understand it either, but like I've said... and will most likely say again... That's not how things work here. The way it works is the way you are told to do it. Don't ask why, and don't offer alternatives. Both are considered very rude. |
