So, how would I go about connecting to a network via a DHCP connection, but it also requires that I input a username and password?

So far all I've been able to find on my own has to do with ppp servers. I'm actually trying to get my direct internet connection to work, but the service provider requires that input user and password. Why? Don't ask, it's a Japanese thing. No, they don't provide service for linux users. So, I only have you guys.

Help?

Probably via pppoe, which is a separate issue from DHCP. How is it done with this ISP if you are running say Windows or Mac?

pc side: DHCP with pppoe not enabled
modem side: DHCP with pppoe enabled

The instructions are for use with a wizard, but it says you would set up to connect broadband with user/password

So you are saying that the modem handles the login for PPPoE? Then you shouldn't have to do anything on the computer, whatever the OS, you just need to get a private IP address from the modem with DHCP. This is typical of ADSL.

technically, yes. The problem is that I have to use an id/password to get to the modem. Only, it isn't prompting me for one.

Well that's between you and the modem really. Are you accessing the web page of the modem? If your address is say 192.168.x.20, then your modem is probably at 192.168.x.1.

Well, I get an ip address from the modem, and it finds the mask, but no. I am not getting the modem web page.

Well you can usually set the account and password if you can get to the modem's web page with a web browser. The modem's address would be the gateway for the default route shown when you do:

route -n

Otherwise have a look at the documentation of the modem.

Alright, I ran route -n and got this back

Destionation Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
127.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 0 0 0 0 lo

So... what do I do now?

Looks like you don't have a configured ethernet interface. Does ifconfig show anything other than lo?
