Hi,
It's me again............sorry about that... hehe......
I eventually got my wireless card working on this MSI EX 600 Notebook...just took an update and a restart was all, not to mention naming things correctly......

Anyways....its great to surf the internet and solve problems...but I really need to access the Terabites of Data on my windows server. I hate to say it again BUT Ubuntu has a knack for doing these thing automatically for me and thus leaves me a mute when it comes to Linux..........

This is how I have tried to setup my network on Suse 10.3......................
After having trouble locating Network Settings/wizard or whateva you call it in suse....I just opened My Computer:
The only thing that resembles what I am looking for is Network Folders:
God Knows what the other things are so I tried to ADD A NETWORK FOLDER:
So...............Microsoft Windows Network Drive.....sounds about right to me so:
After clicking on that I get a bit lost as what to do next......

It says to "Enter A Name for the Microsoft windows network drive as well as a server address and folder path to use and press the save and connect button"

THE NAME OF THE NETWORK DRIVE?
SO Am I suppose to enter the same name that I called the windows Network as in WORKGROUP NAME?????? I called the windows one MSHOME..............or has this absoloutly nothing to do with seeing my windows server???

THE SERVER ADRESS????????????????
what is that................my ADSL router and windows network has nothing to do with ip adresses...its all auto....like I dont know what I am talking about anyways...but what adress and how do I find it anyways???? seems complicated comapred to other distros???why?

FOLDER PATH
Buzzzzzzzzzzzz does not compute.........lol but yea right...I guess that is simple too

I bet I am completely off the Mark.............How do I setup suse to see my windows server....I'm surfing the net ok, and most importantly have fixed the battery and headphone bugs I had in Ubuntu............so please........what a buzz it would be to see my thousands of xvids and mp3s it would be

Take the time to read swerdna's tutorial carefully first. That may help answer some questions. Then post back if you need more assistance. He's one of the network guru's around here...

If all you want to do is browse your windows files from your linux machine, then the samba client section is the most relevant. You may also need to adjust your firewall on both machines.

Thanks anyway Dean,
way to complicated for me...it just seems to keep getting worse. Takes his hat of to you all...I think I will try the alsa sound updates in Ubuntu to fix my sound issues and with some luck the new Ubuntu may have better notebook support for the battery bug. I cant live without my server and thats way to confusing for me.

I'll be sure to tell everyone how helpful you guys are though! ...The irony is, I will no doubt run into troubles there as well..............such is life....I guess linux is not built for the Masses....It's getting better, but still for power users unfortunately.

I will endevoure to keep trying between all the distros, & no doubt I will eventually find one that will have enough automated services and wizards in say another 5 years hopefully.

Later man

I find it hard to believe Ubuntu tools could be any more user-friendly than openSUSE's YaST. Each to their own I suppose.

My general advice (after reading and answering many posts) is to stick with ONE distro while learning. Configuring hardware is the first part and essential to making any distro useful. It all takes time and effort.

Ciao.
