Hi Guys
I am trying to use Samba shares with windows clients. I have joined my SUSE 10.3 box to my 2003 ADS server with no problems. I can log onto the SUSE box with ADS accounts with no problems as well. I can get a list of users and groups using wbinfo. But if i try to access Samba shares from windows clients it prompts for username and password. When i enter ADS accounts it just prompts for username and password again. I have setup samba.conf, kerbos, pam as described in the samba documentation and i have tried numerous different things from searching the net for help. Does anyone have any documentation that may help me solve the problem? Steve |

Did you create a user account on the linux box?
See if this graphical tutorial helps: http://www.swerdna.net.au/linhowtosimpleshares.html |

okay, i have the shares accessable from the windows boxes now and they seem to recognise the AD logon and are not prompting for the username and password.
I don't really know what the problem was in the end after trying so many different approaches but i'm pretty sure it was the .conf files under pam.d. Greeny, Joining to the domain was the easy part for me. I think if you only want your box to log onto the domain, you only need to go into Yast -> Network services -> windows domain membership. I followed some instructions i found on google and setup smb.conf, kerbos.conf, nsswitch.conf, pam.d and ran #net ads join -U Administrator. It will then prompt you for your password. |

Hi Greeny
Yes. The domain name you are attempting to log into appears as it does with a windows client. I'm not in the office at the moment so i cant send you a copy of the smb.conf. If you only want to join your SUSE box to a windows domain it should be as easy as going to the Domain Membership under Yast. At least it was for me anyway. However if you want to use samba with AD auth it is a little more detailed. |
