hey guys,
being honest here, first time on a forum and i really need some help. ok, so a few months ago i got a hand me down laptop from my sister (who should not be trusted with anything) and it came with vista. i didnt like the thought of using this os so i decided togo for a different option and after some consideration i first downloaded fedora, which went ok... i had cable internet, but knew i should also be able to get wireless. i went and found a fedora expert friend who managed to fulfill my wireless dreams. however this magic would only work around him and otherwise i was without internet (also cable at this point). i had a very bright idea at this point. i should get the latest openSuse os and set that up on the laptop. i have a bit more experiance with that as we use it on the school computers and well i do alright there. so i did that, but now i have a beautiful working os system on my lovely laptop(trust me that is a big deal for me) but now again no internet (which i desperately need). when i say this i mean no cable and no wireless is there maybe something wrong with me? i wouldnt know if i did anything wrong due to my cluless newbie status, but i want so desperately to become a linux wizz. can anyone tell me where i might have gone wrong? it seemed so simple when i was going throught the startup. is there maybe a driver i need or something. if it helps i have an acer aspire. please help. |

In a terminal, get to "root": su password now enter: lspci -v copy & paste here the sections that ID your wireless & lan nic's. Once we know you cards, someone will surely help or you can search the forum as that has probably been answered before. here's mine: Quote:

goto yast--->network devices ---->networkcard ----pick a card and click configure there click the general tab if your firewall is set to no zone assigned your firewall will block so you have to assign it one from the dropdown list click next then finish by the way youre using suse 10.3.5 right? |
