while listening to an audio stream!

this happened before. internet worked for months then suddenly it wouldn't work?

put in a nic and it worked fine for a month then it crapped out and i cannot get it to work.

i may be a conspiracy nut but it seems to me that some viruses are able to write to the nic firmware making them useless in linux. both nics (one onboard) work fine with windows?

remember that bill gates did steal dos so we all know he is a crook at heart.

Do you multiboot with windows on that machine?
What NIC did you put into it?

I've seen this reported on the forums: some motherboards and NICs require special electrical treatment after running in windows and then back to Suse, to get the NICs back to working. I've seen it reported that you have to turn the machine off and unplug it. Then wait a bit then boot into Linux. I've no idea what this all means or if it could work for you. I don't recognise either of those brands of cards as being involved, but who knows, give it a try, just a left-field maybe sort of thing.

installed a new nic and it works for now. the other two seem to not work on suse anymore.

i noticed when configuring the dsl that i would select manual or hotplug for the connection but when i returned it was shown as at boot time?

also after configuring new nic that it didn't work at first but worked after a reboot?

what a pain in the a**!

We almost need a Hardware Incompatibility List for Suse. Anyway, glad you got it working again

i do not think it is a compatibility issue. the on board lan worked for two months and then mysteriously crapped out. i tried everything to get it back working and no luck.

so i installed an old nic i had lying around and after a month the same crazy problem?

my third nic is going on a week and i have disabled ssh today.

it may be a problem with my computer or suse but it seems nefarious. i think it is a virus and may even be in the windows update, i have a dual boot system.

what will happen to a computer novice that just buys a computer off the shelf? he will abandon suse thinking it is c***! and use the profitable for microsoft windows.

This is one of the strange ones. It can't be a Linux virus and I can't see how a windows virus can affect performance of network cards in Suse but not in windows, it's just not logical. Let us know if the new card plays up. It's more tuned to be like this sort of problem: http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Realtek_8169_driver_problem
