Question

Please, I need help on this.

I have just set up my actual system: 2 hard drives, dual boot (1st 160 GB XP, in the 2nd 20GB Suse 10.1). I want to configure my Thomsom Speedtouch 330 to work on Suse 10.1 TOO. It's recogniced as a usb scaner, which obviously is not. How can I doo this?, Is it possible to have it working on both Suse and Windows XP. I found something around but is too too too complicated for me, and I swear I have already done incredible things like set up my system by myself, HD drives installation included, LOL.

Thanks for your help! (in advanced

You can see if this helps getting things working.

Unhappy

Hi, Well, I had gone through that before but it looks too advanced for me. I have seen this around: http://steve-parker.org/speedtouchconf/ , but I'm unsure if after that I will be able to use the modem with both WinXp and Suse (dual boot), wich will be great. Is it going to modify the firmware?, What might happend is if use the alcaudsl.sys file instead the other options?. If that happend I'll lose all the suport from the DSL company and I don't want to get into such a mess.

Thanks)

Hi!

That linux-usb page is a good one. And it works!

I set up my parents Dell system with a dual boot to Suse 10.1 - with XP as the other choice - and there are no problems with the ADSL from either system. The only difference is that I've set the connection to go live when Suse boots - and in windoze, they have to kick it off!

What I found was that if you follow the instructions... even if they don't seem to make a lot of sense - it will work. The most complicated thing is to make sure that you've got your login account name and password for the ADSL account. Everything else you need is on that page or in the FAQ or can be downloaded from the links on that page!

Go through the pages on setting it up and where they show the contents of the various config files, do a copy and paste - with any appropriate corrections. That will save time - and I hated copying it all out again! Where it comes to the console commands - do those yourself at a console!

I had a lot of windows open - making sure I got it just right - and I still made mistakes - and it still took less than an hour to get it working.

The irony is that I can get my parents system working fine... but I can't get my own system to work correctly with a serial hardware modem!

Good luck - and have fun - I did (and I'm definitely not an expert on this stuff!)!

PS - if I remember it correctly... my parents have a series 4 model - the silver one!

Cool

Really, thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, I'm glad to listen that, I'll do it!. Mine is a silver one too, so no internet-on-dual-boot troubles? great!.

I'll be telling you how it was as soon as I can, and posting from my Susa, LOL.

I've got the same modem working fine on Suse 10.1. Only prob I've got that I haven't looked into yet is that it isn't automatically connecting at boot - ie. I have to launch a console and run the script each time. One day I'll try and sort this out but for now I'm happy enough to be connected. I did find the instructions a little confusing so give me a shout if you need a hand.

edit: I think this is what I need to try when I get home

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE("Steve Parker site")</div>
Quote:
If it doesn't start on boot, try adding "# Required-start: ALL" to the header in /etc/init.d/speedtouch [/b]

Cool

HI again. After a long time to get the right answer I finally did it.

There's a good project around to configure the speedtouch 330 modem, Steve Parker's one. But won't work on Suse 10.1. Steve himself answered he was not able to came with the solution, he said he didn't undestand where the problem was.

So what I did was this:
Speedtouch configuration under PPpoE

I found it in opensuse.org after a seach on the web page)

At first I though it wasn't working but it did, after a couple of reboot's. Indeed works wonderfully and it not hard to do. I used this method as I am in Spain and Telefonica works under PPPoE.

SO, good luck to the rest of the people with this problem!
