I am just getting my first web server running (well, second actually) and I want to find a good book on server/system administration (linux oriented ideally. I know, almost all them are). Something that covers all the basic housekeeping, cron jobs, network config, security, remote access, troubleshooting, etc, etc. Any suggestions?

#1 SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Administration (Course 3072) #2 SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Advanced Administration (Course 3073) #3 SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10: Networking Services (Course 3074) #4 SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10: Security (Course 3075) It's quite close to how to do things on openSUSE and also has a general Linux approach to things, using the CLI but next to it also YaST. 2 and 3 probably cover much of what you are looking for... Cheers, Wj |

SUSE Linux 10 Bible[u] (Gets updated to some point releases). Wiley Publications. There's also one for Red Hat, Fedora, Mandriva and ???. 850 pages, retails for $40 or so.

I am aware of those books; do they provide good coverage of server administration?
Those courses looked good, but if I read the website correctly, they cost around $395 for a self-led course. Ouch. |

You can find them in pdf format and do not need the whole study kit if it's for your own use. |
