Thumbs up

Hello just as the title says, I am just getting started and more than a little lost. I have been using Windows ever since I started using a computer. After recently purchasing a laptop I have decided that I am ready for a change and am going with Linux. I know there are many distro's available out there but, I have experienced a couple and have chosen Suse 10.2.

My main issue at this point is that I cannot find any starting information about it. I did take a look at wikipedia but, was lost  for the most part but, I found the link to this site, so yay

So, any recommendations or suggestions?

It would be a good idea to do some research about your laptop model and Linux compatibility. Not that you would return the laptop, probably too late for that, but to prepare yourself for the issues you may face getting some of the peripherals to work, and to save wasted effort.

http://tuxmobil.org/

is a good source of collected information. There is another site

http://www.linux-laptop.net/

Haven't looked at them in a while, haven't bought anything recently so I don't know how they compare, but use whatever info you can find. An entry from someone saying yes I got it working with Linux (any distro) and here's how, is quite valuable. Despite the difference in appearance, underneath Linux technology is common to all distros, and if it works with one, you should be able to get to work with another.

Here is an openSUSE concepts page I started, that might be of some "philosophical" help.
http://en.opensuse.org/Concepts

It is very high level (with no specific advice) as it is intended to teach ex-windows some Linux concepts.
