Use the KDE Control Center if it's an icon theme.

its not actually a theme, just a set of icons as far as I can see, I thought that the folder containing them need to be saved as a theme file but I dont know what extension that would be, In the control centre under install theme it just takes me straight into the directory with all the .png files so I'm not sure how to do it. I downloaded the .tar.bz2 file from http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/9342636/ and theres no install info there.

If it's not a KDE icon theme, you'll just have to extract the icons somewhere and link your .desktop and menu items manually. Unless, of course, someone around here knows how to create icon themes...

i found out what i was doing wrong, the icon set has to be a tarball to install in the KDE control centre, i was unpacking them first. This is fine but I cant find a zenith tarball anywhwere! Its always a zip file which doesnt work. Anyway cheers for the help

It's no problem to create a tarball and install icons, as I did this frequently with the Umicons release. But Zenith is just a scattering of icons and will not be properly used by KDE as an icon set. You really can only use the Zenith icons selectively and just manually apply them as desired. The author of Zenith just made a few images for some global applications and never intended I suppose to take it any further. And so, for this purpose they work rather well.
