hi,

my 9.2 pro is running slower than my XP installation so there must be something wrong here. I have disabled progs i dont need and taken a screenshot of the 'top' command which can be seen here:

Any ideas how to speed things up or what could be wrong?

Could you be a bit more specific as to how it's "slower"? Also, could you post your system specifications for us?

hi moe,

ok well sometimes when i click on my browser address bar i have to wait like 30 seconds for it to allow me to type an address.......ALL programs are slow to open. Firefox in XP is instant in SUSE its like 5 seconds or more to open. I have had a few system lock ups and also sometimes when i try log out or shut my system down it just makes the sound but then does nothing.

System specs:

AMD Athlon 3200+
1GB Ram PC 3200 400Mhz Dual DDR
ABIT NF7-S Mobo
Onboard Nvidia Nforce sound
ATI 9800 Pro
LG L1710B 17" flat screen.
2x 160GB Maxtors standard HD's
Sony DVD writer
Lite-on CD Writer

Thanks

Looking at those specs there's no reason I can see why SuSE should run slowly. The top command has an option to sort by memory usage. Just start up top and type M (I don't remember if it's case sensitive). That will tell you what's taking up the most of your resources..

Also, KDE won't be quite as responsive if you don't have the proper drivers for your Radeon. Getting those to work is a topic in and of itself.

Which card do you have?

Do a Google search for it and a search on these forums, with search terms:

"<name of your card> SuSe"

Oh yeah, here ( http://www.tweakers.net/meuktracker/5335 ) it says that 31 december ATI made new drivers available:

http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/linux/r...=7&submit=GO%21

Maybe these are better drivers?
