Strange things happening...
Did you check if DMA is enabled on your disks?
Perhaprs a fresh re-install may also help.

DaveM,
Go into YaST and click on the SYSTEM icon.
From there choose /ETC/CONFIG icon.
Go down the tree list to where is says DESKTOP.
From there you can make your changes to what login manager you want.
AND if you go into YaST and choose SECURITY & USERS you can choose SECURITY SETTINGS.
In SECURITY SETTINGS you can choose WHO you will let shutdown or reboot your system.
Hope this is helpful..
Laterz,
Joey

Thumbs down

Hello there
I have similar problem....
My PC is AMD2800+; 512RAM 400MHz; SATA 120GB HD; Nvidia 5600....
and this was second ftp install, which is becoming tiering as I did it twice in a week
Anyway my problem is:
Clean ftp distro installation works flawles, but as soon as I do update (in this case YOU, first time I did apt-get dist-upgrade) PC slows down like I am working on P2. Even now while I am typing it's very slow, characters are showing with big delay. I might try installing Nvidia driver manually, although one which was installed automatically works okay apart from weird screen while rebooting.
P.S. Important speed issue, it works like in amplitudes for instance 5 seconds is okay, then 10 seconds ultra slow, 5 ok, 10......

Any other suggestion you might add?

Just to report update...
I've tried to downgrade to 9.1... no success, then again ftp install of 9.2, this time without update. PC was behaving abnormally, if you watch the screensaver it's obvious something is very wrong, it runs smooth, and then slows down, and you have infinite loop of speed changes.
Linux is definitely trying to comunicate with some device unsuccessfully. I pulled out one drive, which I thought had issues, no luck, my wacom tablet, no success, logitech web cam, no succes, and finally my PocketPC Dell Axim SUCCESS!
I'm not really sure why does this happen, maybe someone can elaborate more on issue in between Microsoft based PDA's and Suse platform issues?
Anyhow, I am happy that week of misery is finally over!
Cheers to all
Vladimir
