AFAIK, the ATI drivers that are out still do not support Xorg 6.8. Hopefully someone with a ATI can tell you better though as I use Nvidia.

Yeah i heard about that. You see personally through reading up i thought that i couldnt use the current drivers because 9.2 uses XOrg but everyone just kept telling me to go to the ati website etc etc........

I knew the current drivers would be no good seems there are very few people that really know alot about the ATI in Linux scene (probably because they use better supported Nvidia).

I will wait for these new drivers and see how they go......would like to think one day i would be able to download a specific suse rpm driver and right click and select 'install with yast' but oh what a distant dream that is

Thanks for your help guys

I am using a Radeon 9600XT *without* ATI's drivers, but instead the generic "radeon" driver that comes with Suse 9.0. KDE works fine, not slow at all. It's only a problem for apps that need 3D acceleration. You might have something else causing your problem.

Don't be alarmed,Linux makes use of the memory at all times, unlike Windows.
See how it's using nearly all of my 512Mb ram.
This won't be the cause of your slowdown unless your memory sticks are faulty.
