well I have been struggling with getting 9.1 going on my AMD 64 machine.
Just some stupid errors (ATI install botched display beyond repair) Had to reinstall multiple times. Started looking around on the ftp.suse site and saw the read me was updated. Read it and it said the mirrors would have it this weekend. Sure enough it was there just a few hours ago, and I am installing right now (using laptop for this post with 9.1) Found it rather amusing for a couple of things: it now says a novell business, which I thought it was an OS not a business It loaded my nforce driver with ease found my usb mouse correctly has a slide show like windows has during install Had me agree to downloading a flash player (this on a 64) thats cool (might be 32 bit though) It is extremely slow though, just downloading the boot.iso took a long time. Loading the ramfile took about a half hour, and I expect this install (no extra packages) to take all night. I hope I did not let the cat out of the bag by mentioning this, but I expected to read about others experiences here and see no posts about it yet. Was I first? I hardly dout it considering how slow the server is.

It will be real slow for the next few days. The ftp has been up since last night so everyone is hitting it.

I have noticed problems with swamped servers, etc,on the mailing lists.
There is a DVD.iso that some have downloaded but errors re file too large for DVD are appearing. I gave a friend of mine:ftp.gwdg.de/pub/suse/i386/9.2/iso/ and it started downloading the iso immediately at quite a good speed,so he said. But I don't know whether he's up and running yet. Good Luck with yours. |

I would imagine the DVD ISO is Dual Layer, so if the people who downloaded it, don't have a Dual Layer DVD burner, they would get the message that the file is too big. I have not looked on the FTP to see the size.
Anyone know how big it is? |

I'd wait at least 2 weeks when traffic is down before I pursue in downloading it from the FTP.

just finished the ftp install, it took 13 hours for a basic install.
I would agree a wait would be a good idea. Some of the packages could not be found on the server and I had to click retry to get them, those servers must be smoking  |

Feedback on the ftp DVD download.Apparently downloads keep stalling at the present time according to people I know.
One also downloaded the mini iso but couldn't get it to boot.Could be a hardware problem, tho. Or too fast a write speed. He's going to try the DVD download again using Opera(must have a resume download setting). " The ISO has not been completely transfered to gwdg.de yet would be my guess. I tried a few different sites in the USA till I found one that worked. I have the ISO burned to DVD and will try the install on my laptop some time today. Download with 1.5 DSL took about 10.5 hours" (Comment from a mailing list) Apparently the iso is for i386.The size is 3.5 Gb. |

Then they must have really cut a lot of stuff out for the FTP download. Getting it on one normal DVD makes it easier to download, but it would have been nice to have more stuff. I can see Novell's side of this though. The new Dual Layer burners are quite new and not that many folks have them yet.

Agreed Wilson.
Just out of curiousity I downloaded the mini iso just now and had no problems as far as I'm aware off gwdgmirror.Got it fast and furiously. Apparently,Distrowatch has 4 servers running, but only 2 of them are ready(so I've been told). |
