In 9.2, /dev/hdd4 (or whaterver hdx4 your zip is on), does not exist and mounting /dev/hdd (no parttition number) works. You might try it just to see. # mount -t vfat /dev/hdd /media/zip I that doesn't work, insert a zip disk and try (as root): fdisk -l (small 'L' not a # 1) See if that lists anything helpful Good luck [/b][/quote] 9.1 as well Big Shell. T'was that little trick of yours that got my zip working for me and I'm on 9.1. However, this doesn't explain how things got awry on jrev's system. |

One fix could be what overbyte suggested in this topic. I see you tried it without success (same here). jrev was one of the posters there, so I assume (s)he read the same thing. The only other real fix I've seen is the one that worked for us. I have heard of folks reformating the disks to a linux fs and mounting partition one. Not an option for me because I share those files with a windows box. |

I too like the idea of transporting large files from machine to machine and all my others including work are XP based. But now even my 250MB zips work perfectly. |

There is one more thing I can think of to try. Boot from the 9.1 cd/dvd and try a repair. From the first screen, choose installation, then language, then repair installed system. Maybe that will fix things. Be sure to post back here how it went so others may learn. Wish I could have been more help. |

thanks for all
I think you gave me the right answer (to try and fix it with the boot on DVD) but it didn't work so after checking in the best forums i will have to do what i was used to do with MSwindows i.e. complete reinstall no luck for me who was told there were always a better way on Linux ... <_<
