Where did you get it from? Every time I try to install Gnome I get a list of 2000 unresolved dependencies and give up in frustration.

Thanks for any tips.

Remember, SuSE had to get 9.1 Personal to fit on 1 CD, so it had to leave a lot out, and Gnome is a LOT. Start with the biggest packages and download them and get them installed. The list will get a lot smaller and won't look so daunting. GTK and all the dev libs will make a huge dent in that dependency list.

I have 9.2 pro so I can not guarantee this, but it makes sense to me that you could add the 9.1 Pro section of the SuSE ftp to your install source and then when you click Add and Remove Software, you would be able to choose any packages you need just like having the 9.1 pro DVD in the drive.

Hey experts, am I right on this?

Hi,

First I'm no expert.
My experience with SuSe 9.1 personal regarding gnome is, you only need to open Yast click add remove program ( be sure you already have the ftp or http source of installation and it is turn on) When the ftp source appear on the gui screen (you are now in Yast2)select package source click the plus sign on gui and select gnome or use search, type gnome and check all the gnome packages. In my experience (do it at your own risk) I prefer to include all the gnome develepment packages coz I find it easier to upgrade to a newer version by not having many dependency issues. Dont forget to check the auto check
for depencies in yast so you will be able to track down every package that you select for depenencies, by doing this you always have the chance to unselect the package til you resolve its dependencies

Have fun this holiday season

Merry christmas to everyone,
conram
