I uninstall the previous version and download the latest version from OpenOffice.org and extract it and run the install program. It's simple enough!

If I download and install from openoffice.org will yast recognize that I have upgraded to a newer version of openoffice?

I think what thc4me is asking is if there's an RPM available for installation of 1.1.3. As far as I know, no. So if you download and compile it from the OpenOffice.org site, YaST will not know you've installed the new version.

I also just compiled over the old one, not as clean as a uninstall then install but works well.

I remember a time ago when 1.1.3 was released and and I install it. But as you know without an rpm YAST will not know about it. What I do is to delete the contents of the original direcotry of OO and copy the new version on it, but I run into some problems with the Office Suite, like crashes and all that and delete it.

couldnt you download the source and then use checkinstall to make an rpm of it and then install with yast?

For 9.2 users the 1.1.3 rpm is the one of the distro

For my part, I am satisfied with the OOo installer (also Firefox and Thunderbird installers are fine).
It is not recognised by Yast, but will come up in the xdg compatible desktops menus.
As my non-yast installs are few, I can maintain them when needed.

O.O.o v2.0 is due out very soon, but i have seen no mention of a 64bit binary for it and i want to run it natively in 64bit on my SUSE 9.1Pro instal.

will there be a 64bit binary, or will i be limitedb to upgrading 1.1.3?
