this is my situation, i have 1 HDD that has suse linux on it, and another HDD has windows xp on it. instead of switching 2 HDD(between linux and windows) all the time, im wondering if its possible to have these 2 HDD connected, on the same IDE conection, maybe? and i can choose whichever OS i want it to boot to when i turn on my computer.

what i want is to switch between linux or windows at boot, like when you boot up your computer, i want to choose linux or windows that i want to boot to. so like when im in windows, when ever i wanna do my stuffs in linux, then i just reboot my computer, and choose boot to linux, adn it will directly boot to linux. same to windows, when ever im in linux, and i wanna do stuffs on windows, all i gotta do is reboot my computer and choose to boot to windows, then it will directly boot to windows. is that possible?

and i use 2 different HDD, one has linux, the other one has windows.

i dont share files between windows and linux, the reason why i wanna do this is cuz i have only one desktop computer, and 2 HDD, sometimes i do works on linux, sometimes on windows, but its annoying for me to disconnect the IDE connection from one HDD to another everytime i want to use either one of the HDD. and i dont want to install both windows and linux on the same HDD. instead of doing this, i want to be able to connect both HDD in one system so when it boots up, it would asks me whether i want to go in windows(primary) or linux(secondary). ive been asking this question around, someone mentioned about the linux distrobution, and they ask me to reinstall this linux distro. i have no clue what exactly is this. if anyone have a clue how to solve my problem please reply.

thanks alot.

Make the Windows drive the primary HD and the linux drive as the slave. Then boot to the Suse install disk and choose installation. After you choose your language it will ask you to boot from disk, new install, rescue/repair. Choose rescue/repair and have it re-install grub. This should pick up both your windows and linux partitions.

After changing jumper settings to master and slave for the two drives (as the previous poster noted), you will also want to connect both to the same IDE controller. Get a data cable that allows for two drive connections.

Also take a look at this thread on some problems with dual booting:

Be sure to back up your WINXP installation before you do anything else.
