I just bought a Gateway notebook with an AMD Athlon 3200 64 bit processor. I only have the 32 bit version of SuSE 9.1. Will it install or run OK until I can buy the latest SuSE 9.2 64 bit version? I don't know how long I can stand the WinXP Home that came on the laptop...
Thanks, Sam |

Yes, it will work, it will just compile a -smp kernel for you.

OK, so I installed SuSE 9.1 on my AMD 64 notebook. It installed fine but it runs VERY slowly. I was able to log into to GNOME and Window Maker but everything was horribly slow. I tried getting into KDE --forget it, wouldn't even get to the desktop. I have an ATI 9600 video card. Could this be it? I thought it should at least give me decent 2D support. Anyone know what's going on?
Thanks, Sam |

No it should be a problem with your PC itself.
I installed the same suse version on my 64bit AMD laptop and had no problem at all. Now I installed SuSE 9.2 Pro 64bits and this really rocks... |

Neo,
My notebook is a Gateway with an AMD 64 3200+ CPU. What's yours? I went ahead and ordered SUSE 9.2 since it's supposed to be compatible with the 64. Hope it works. I'm using Windows at the moment and I'm having withdrawals...Linux...please...help... Sam |

My notebook is the Acer Ferrari 3200LMi (limited edition) with a VIA ProSavage™ KN400 chipset and a Radeon 9700 Mobile.
With SuSE 9.1 I had a lot of ACPI problems with this one but now with SuSE 9.2 and the latest bios upgrade I don't have any problems. |
