I just bought a Gateway notebook with an AMD Athlon 3200 64 bit processor. I only have the 32 bit version of SuSE 9.1. Will it install or run OK until I can buy the latest SuSE 9.2 64 bit version? I don't know how long I can stand the WinXP Home that came on the laptop...

Thanks,

Sam

Yes, it will work, it will just compile a -smp kernel for you.

OK, so I installed SuSE 9.1 on my AMD 64 notebook. It installed fine but it runs VERY slowly. I was able to log into to GNOME and Window Maker but everything was horribly slow. I tried getting into KDE --forget it, wouldn't even get to the desktop. I have an ATI 9600 video card. Could this be it? I thought it should at least give me decent 2D support. Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks, Sam

No it should be a problem with your PC itself.
I installed the same suse version on my 64bit AMD laptop and had no problem at all.
Now I installed SuSE 9.2 Pro 64bits and this really rocks...

Neo,

My notebook is a Gateway with an AMD 64 3200+ CPU. What's yours? I went ahead and ordered SUSE 9.2 since it's supposed to be compatible with the 64. Hope it works. I'm using Windows at the moment and I'm having withdrawals...Linux...please...help...

My notebook is the Acer Ferrari 3200LMi (limited edition) with a VIA ProSavage™ KN400 chipset and a Radeon 9700 Mobile.
With SuSE 9.1 I had a lot of ACPI problems with this one but now with SuSE 9.2 and the latest bios upgrade I don't have any problems.
