I set up Suse 9.2 on my p/c but have come up against three problems:-

1) After completing the install I set up the Nvidia driver (init 3 and sh) but sax2 would not work. Tried to re-set using yast in shell but it woudn't work either. Startx would not work. Is this a general problem with the new x server and nvidia. I ended up re-installing 9.2 and installing the Nvidia driver through YOU which worked fine but am curious.

2) the kmenu is massive with big icons. I see that there is a fix shown for 9.1 (under the software section on this site) by changing the kickerrc file but the kickerrc file under 9.2 does not seem to include the settings that need changing to get the icons back to a reasonable size.

3) I felt I had gone a bit backwards (with kde 3.3) as before installing 9.2 I was running 9.1 with kde 3.3.1. I have updated to 3.3.1 using one of the mirror services (for 9.1) - although yast came up some potential conflicts before installing the update everything seems to be working OK. Has anybody had any problems with this?

Many thanks.

1) I have ATI cards, so I can't speak to your first question.

2) Just add the line to .kickerrc that the 9.1 tip describes.

3) It's never a good idea to use an older version's rpms for something as major as KDE or Gnome. You will usually have problems of some sort, although depending on the "what", those issues can range from "never encountered it" to "broke my system". For other things, like applications, it frequently works without issue if the install dependencies are met.

SuSE is so responsive about KDE updates, I would think they will have a KDE update to 3.3.1 or later pretty soon anyway.

kastorf - Many thanks for your post.

It seems that I must have gone wrong somewhere in trying to change the kickerrc file to get the kmenu icons the right size. Is it possible some kind person can post simple idiot proof instructions how to change this?

Many thanks

Typical I re-installed 9.2 with a screen size 800x600 (rather than the normal size). It works fine with kmenu the right size and then I find the right kickerrc file.
