Greetings,

I'm trying to get SuSE 9.2, and I'd like to have the disks around so that I can easily install extra packages without using FTP site. Where can I download the full version of 9.2 professional (for free) to burn to a set of CD's? ISO's, or just an FTP directory where all necessary files are stored would be preferable. Thanks guys/gals.

Pi Man.

Pi Man,

Any relation to 3.141592653?

I'm not sure that you will be able to just "get" 9.2 Professional for free. There may be an ftp site sometime in December, but I've no idea if, that will be the case. It seems historically that has happened.

But then again, the Personnal edition has been eliminated. I think you just have to wait and see.

As for now the only place to get 9.l2 is online. In the next few days it should hit the stores. As for ftp, check Adler's post.

Ah. That's why I can't find it anywhere!

Hmm. A lot of versions are apparently available for free download. Oh well.

Well, I'll keep watching the FTP mirrors and such. If I can't find it for download after a while, I'll probably buy a copy.

By the way, exactly what kind of store would carry it in a few days when it "hits the stores?" I know Best Buy, Circut City, Office Depot, etc. would sooner die...

Anyway, thanks for your help.

And, yes. The "Pi" in "Pi Man" has to do with circumference/diameter. I used to be able to recite pi to 80 digits, but I haven't been too diligent in keeping it fresh in my memory. Now, it's probably about 74 or 66.

Actually Best Buy, Circuit City and CompUSA have had the last 3 versions. Before that I'm not sure. I know for a fact CompUSA will be carrying it (friends that work there) and Best Buy should also.

Pi Man,

The best way to do this IS to buy 9.2 Professional when it hits the shelves in your area.

I don't work for anyone associated with SuSE or Novell, but have learned that having everything there @ hand works best. The DVDs will save you the cost of all your efforts in trying to get something done, plus the installation time.

Besides, you can come back and say that I bought it @ so and so....

PS - 69_rs_ss - I was hoping to pick it up this past weekend out here, but IT wasn't to be found. I'll be checking next week to be sure.

I ordered the 9.2 Pro update from Amazon for $54.99 with free shipping. I don't think you will find a better deal in the retail stores in the United States. Downside is Amazon is saying Nov 10 as a ship date. They were right on with the 9.1 date.

jwac1,

You've gotten the up-date, not the new full-blown 9.2 Pro version. The up-date costs $60. That's pretty generic and no special pricing.

Amazon hasn't anything special here. I don't think that the up-date will be offered other than through them. Perhaps by others, but that is not what you want.

The new version $90 or some where there abouts. Suggestion - cancel your order and get the Full version.

Sorry, but that would be the better way to go.

One more question about SuSE 9.2. Will the full version also let me upgrade from 8.2 without losing any settings, configs, desktop files, etc.? (Probably should have posted this in the installation section...)

Yeah, I'm a linux newb, but this time, I'm determined to become an expert! There's no better way to learn linux than to completely wipe Windoze from your HD and start over with linux.

Pi Man,

I have a very distinct Home folder created where I send all my backed-up items. For example I have a complete folder of all my .rpms and install instructions (Linux Downloads).

Again, I learned that there was a little bit of discipline needed to re-create the mess that I found myself in shouldd I need to have back-ups.

I always back-up all my important documentation on a CD or other available hard format. For all my contacts I keep them parked in Cyberspace with eiither Yahoo.com or GMail. Gmail is better as far as I am concerned. You get a Gb of free storage.

This is a holdover from my MS experiences.

I am sure that you'll find so many changes wiith the new version of SuSE that you'll not want to save the GUI, but the data that you need.
