Red in the file manager usually means broken link or not accessible.

Before to know exactly what you are doing, it is better to install all the hardware, disks, modems, printers and switch them on before fresh installing an OS.

How do your fstab entries read?

hey,...
well all my hardware was connected, I just mounted hdd1 there where I wanted it...

the thing is that after I remounted it.. I tried to get tinto the folder and it was empty.. only in the Terminal I could see the files, but not touch them.

here under #mount

/dev/hda2 on / type reiserfs (rw,acl,user_xattr)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
tmpfs on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,mode=0620,gid=5)
/dev/hdb on /media/cdrom type subfs (ro,nosuid,nodev,fs=cdfss,procuid,iocharset=utf8)
/dev/fd1 on /media/floppy type subfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,sync,fs=floppyfss,procuid)

fstab is:
/dev/hda2 / reiserfs acl.user_xattr 1 1
/dev/hdd1 /data1 auto noauto.user 0 0
/dev/hda1 swap swap pri=42 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620.gid=5 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0
sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0
/dev/cdrom /media/cdrom subfs fs=cdfss.ro.procuid-nosuid-nodev.exec.iochrset=utf8 0 0
/dev/fd1 /media/floppy subfs fs=floppyfss.procuid.nodev.nosuid.sync 0 0
------END-----
As I said I can open /data1 (hdd1) ... see most of the files in there .. and open and so on.. only that 1 folder I can only open but not see them or use em.

ok thanx for you r time...

greets

That "other folder" appears to be a web.
Could have been managed by another webserver setting it's own flags.
If this is the case, even root will not have sufficient authorization to chown or chmod.
Logic,
as if you would change the rights on the files, the original webserver's settings would be broken and you would then be unable to list the files from their original application.

Quanta? Must have been unde Linux+Apache, but on another apache server.
Easy way would be to boot back in the old OS with working apache and sitecopy the pages on another place (copy to a directory not in apache).
chmod --recursive on that directory.
Then, eventually, sitecopy that directory into the new webserver (makes no difference if you're using MS IIS or apache), wbserver flags have to be nil'ed someway.

hi lvlamb,
the thing is I cant boot into old OS....its sorta gone.. like I would have to then re install suse 9.1,,.. after which reinstall 9.2,... hmmm...

Btw, I didnt have my apache runing at all,... I just wrote the script in quanta,..I was thinking of re instralling the "old" 3.1(I think) quanta and then see if it runes,.. perhaps qanta put its own tags in there,.. the "new" quanta (3.2) seems to not wana open them either...

well I am now looking for the older version and I will see what happens.. although I find it funny that quanta changes the flags like it likes...

ok.. thanx again..

later!

hey lvlamb,

WELL IT HAPPENED AS YOU SAID; THE FLAGS WHERE MADE BY QUANTA,

so after I installed quanta 3.1, I can now see all the folders and all the data.

thanx a bunch for your help...

.. linux is like life,.. the more you know the less you really know....

seems like you never stop learning ...

again thanx a bunch
