I create a "link to application" on my desktop, set the appropriate icon and command for the link, and click the link to launch the application. However, in some cases, instead of just launching the program, another item appears in the taskbar. It is called "link to application", and it churns for about 30 seconds to 1minute before finally disappearing. During this time the bouncing "waiting for stuff to happen" icon appears near my mouse cursor too.
While this is not a critical problem, I wonder why it happens specifically with some of the links I have created, and not with others. It's a bit of a nuisance. Any ideas on what this is and how to avoid it? Thanks -netloss |

If the program doesn't launch, run it from a terminal and check the error messages. The launch animation will run for a while and then stop even when the program has terminated.

Sorry, I was not clear. The application does in fact launch properly. The thing is, the Link to Application taskbar item and the launch animation also stick around for 30-60 seconds. And again, this only happens with certain of the links that I myself have made. It does not happen with the desktop links that came preconfigured on the KDE desktop.
