really weird problem. The keyboard works fine under Win, and all other keys seem fine under Linux. But the 3rd letter of the alphabet is a problem (in Kate, URL field of browser, wherever).
If I just press the key I get nothing If I hold shift and press I get C If I hit Caps lock and then shift and press I get c It is a plain old generic keyboard, used to work fine under SuSE 9.0 and 9.1 when originally installed. Hard to tell what/when it stopped - not the most commonly required letter! SaX2 config has 105-key generic, UK layout and looks fine. In OpenOffice selecting different fonts doesn't cure anything (so not a font problem). Did a searh here for "lost c" and found nothing usefull. Any offers??? TIA |

I cannot, I'm afraid, answer your question. However, I give you extra points for having the funniest thread subtitle. And in other news, on my laptop I can only get quotations, eg "", by hitting the quoation key followed by the space bar. I have learned to live with that but I ouldn't learn to ontrol the keyboard without the c key, ould I?

first check or you're using a 105 keys keyboard in the configuration (via sax2) or select an exact match of your keyboard.
use xev to find out what pressing the C is real doing |

Yup - it is a 105 key board.
xev output seems to be showing some kind of remapping that is beyond my Linux skills: for little a I get Code:

ok, so you're keyboard is working ok, it gives a c
the question is: why don't you see it on your screen .. i have to think about that, no ideas at this moment .. if you're in the non-graphical environment (so in console, not in X) do you have te same problem ? |

Try setting your country in the control center. Possibly the lack of country information or the wrong country is selected giving the problem you are having.

But Grim76 hit the nail. In Control Centre I had no Country selected so took UK. Also in keyboard layout had nothing so took UK there as well. Still no-go. But browsing the keyboard shortcuts, Shortcut sequences have just seen C mapped to "Switch to desktop 5". Have just set that back to "Default" and voila! Many thanks to all for suggestions & help. Cant imagine how the hell I set c to be my shortcut for desktop 5 (I only use 1 desktop) but am happy to be able to ccccccccccc again
