Are there any really good books for getting to know linux a bit better, or for newbs in linux? I am just about to make the jump from windows to linux as soon as I figure something out I posted about...but I bought "Linux in easy steps" are there any other good books I should get to help familiarize myself? This book is good but quite a bit general, if there is a book just on suse 9.1 or something as well that'd help. Merci beaucoup.

There are books and there are e-books. The latter are eg good because you can read them through while practicising the examples without having to worry how to keep your book open.
A very good source for e-books (eg pdf) is the linux documentation project. |

My personal favourite is Moving To Linux: Say Goodbye To The Blue Screen Of Death! by Marcel Gagne.
It made my switch to Linux quite frustration-free. Its not distribution-specific, aimed at newbies but still packs a lot of information. I even became comfortable with basic console commands through this book! |

How about the original book for Dummies?, "Linux For Dummies 5th Edition".

I have that book and it's not really good for SuSE users as so little information about it is present but good for Red Hat Fedora users. But good for Linux users in general.

I think you should start with the SuSE manuals, if you haven't read them first. From there you have a nice collection av free books and PDF's on the net, checkout IBM developerworks and tldp.org which has a lot of good beginner books for bash etc, for free.
If you don't have the SuSe manuals, you could download them from Novell. |
