Is it possible to have 3d acceleration with ati cards under xorg or just with xfree.
If so how ?

I don't know but you can find ATI Gtaphic Drivers here:
http://ati.com/support/driver.html

These graphic drivers enable 3D Acceleration.

These are for xfree only.
I used the one from suse ftp for Xfree came with instructions.
I just wanted to know if it would work with Xorg.

From what I know, yes...it will work. Of course any configuration changes will need to be duplicated in xorg's config file.
